Rimshot-packed comedown house from Marcus Paulson on Quintessentials, amounting to a four-track cochlear purgation and cleansing. The sonic equivalents an aloe scented exfoliants with notes of hibiscus and azalea, 'MP' and 'Keep On' serve to anoint then massage the ears by way of expertly panned FMs, pressed reverb rumpuses, and chord-string dances. And though its name gets at a theme of purity, the EP's 'House Music' retains still the only reserve of dirt (hydroponic gardens still need soil) left over on the entire record, though it's still sprayed over by anthro exhalations and "huh" sounds, in lieu of a crop duster. The titular 'Pure' is the final highlight, offering the listener an ascendancy of wafty cloud synthetics and tickly claves, among other perc sounds. -

Since opening an at-request-only record shop in a Crystal Palace warehouse, Palace Vinyl have now offshot into sublabel Brixton Row. Here they welcome London techno god of decades Grant Dell for the new 'Purple Kutz' EP, and warning: the bass load here is not light by any margin. 'This Spiritual Muzik' will leave your legs shaking, and 'Masonic Mantra' only lets up the heft at the slight cost of extra snap. Then the bloody fantastic B-side: 'Still Letting Go' demonstrates how to have fun while plunging straightward into narrative darkness, a hair-flipping vocal line showing us "this is how I do it!". The music is confidently centred in its own swirling ruminance; DJs needn't fear phase issues. -

Not all types of techno suits the album format, though that's not an accusation you could level at Derek Carr's particular brand of melodic, sci-fi-fired retro-futurism. "Pursuit Part 1" (a second volume will drop shortly) proves this point, delivering a suite of mostly club-ready cuts that can easily be listened to from start to finish in the comfort of your own home. It's full to bursting with warm, melodious, bass-heavy tackle, much of which combines his usual starry synths and deep space electronics with grooves which are far more influenced by dub techno than much of Carr's output. Highlights include the two-part "Not Tonight", the TB-303 powered "Acid Bath", and the glistening ambient/IDM lusciousness of "Nightfall". -

Credit 00 is still doing his thing with PUT THE FUNK BACK IN 2 TECHNO, saving you from the horrors of today's life with a bunch of stirring tracks to dance against oppression. On his seventh EP for Uncanny Valley the Leipzig based funkster finds solace in his craft, doing what he does best. And that is to make dance music that is both undeniably catchy and blessed with an ever-surprising range of ideas and styles. What all the tracks have in common is that they have been written by someone who is deeply committed to the roots of dance music. On top of that, he has the enviable ability to find titles that already give you a hunch of sound and message of the tracks, even before you listen to them. Be it the title track with its wild Detroit rhythms and piano sound bits or the closer YOU NEED 2 CHILL, a still highly danceable ode to 90s chill out floors. While the stomping BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT gets use of Credit 00's own voice, the chords heavy CHURCH FOR THE RENEGADES is a perfect example of inventive use of vocal samples. All in all, it's music you pretty much can't help but love. Also, don't miss a closer look at the front and back cover, which are full of references and iconographies from the history of dance music. In typical Credit 00 style, it's a super entertaining way for the artist to give credit to a lot of his influences. -
