I was born in Newark, NJ during the late 60's. My family relocated in Chicago in the early 70's. I began my DJ pursuit when I was a child. My mom brought me a set of Technique turntables, and the rest is history. I knew at a very early age that I was destined to pursue a career doing what I loved, creating unique sounds of muzik. Muzik has always been my passion. I always hung around the older "old school" crowd who played house. They would play the game,"What you know about this?". They really influenced my interest and increased my desire to learn more about the unique sound of deep, deep house muzik. Later on some of these same individuals would tell me, "Man, your sounds are too deep for me". I began my DJ career in the early 80's playing house, deep house and rare disco exclusively. During this time Chicago was filled with DJs who played house and disco sounds. However, I chose a different direction, playing rare, hard- to- find grooves. When some of the best-known, popular DJs whom I admired referred to me as a serious deep house muzik collector, a monster was born. All I wanted to do was visit different record stores. I developed a unquenchable desire to create one of the best collections ever. For many years, I spent most of my time in record shops seeking vintage deep house sounds. I soon realized that while I was out searching for the deepest house muzik, people had practically stopped playing muzik, and instead they were playing beat tracks only. Yet they were referring to these tracks as house songs. This was not "original" house muzik! I then retreated even deeper into house muzik. My partners and I began developing our own unique sound, known as SOUL IN THE HOLE muzik. We sought out the deepest hot stuff available and found out that there was so much untapped muzik. Our search practically took over our lives. Yet, it was a great investment, because our unique collection has given us dominance. We have stayed true to the game of spinning, and avoided the tracks and techno/electronics. For us, it's strictly vinyl and vinyl only. I thank God for the opportunity to travel the world and share and learn more about this muzik that I love. Muzik lovers are the same all over the world. In many of the countries I have visited there were often language barriers, however, once the muzik began to play, we were able to communicate through our muzik. Muzik really is the universal language. credits -

No Return! Soul Quest are proud to present the latest release from Berlin based DJ and producer Jean-Jez, who continues on with a musical journey with flourishing roots and a bright, bright future. Jean-Jez has made waves in Berlin’s underground for a good while now, with his Kedi Bounce parties (whom he co-founded) quickly becoming a celebratory cornerstone of community and culture. His DJing style and production approach act as a core expressional loop, with Jean-Jez embracing a multitude of styles and sounds with both. Bridging the gap between house, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Afro-Latin and beyond, Jean-Jez is all about nurturing the collective joy found within music - either through his own tunes or deep in the mix at a Kat Nip party. ‘Soul Notion’ wears its heart on its sleeve and embodies the core musical principles to which Jean-Jez holds so very dear. ‘Did you want to dance!’ kicks things off with a deep melodic embrace, before spreading outwards with brassy frills, evocative simmering drumming patterns and vocal samples which kick the inner consciousness into another gear. ‘Take me to the moon’ contains an up and front piano lead, with uptempo drums providing a twist and flair to proceedings. Some inspired vocals add further to the atmosphere, one of airiness and emotional escapism. ‘What is it tell me’ stirs into life with a wide scope through the low ends, but Jean-Jez cooks up a storm with some wondrous jazz guitar that weaves one final spell to get lost deep within. To wrap things up, Jean-Jez enlists his own collective: Kedi Bounce to put an Acid twist on ‘Did You Want To Dance’ to close the ep in style. This mix is exclusive to the vinyl mix and won’t be released digitally. Jean-Jez looks to celebrate and resonate through his music, and this EP is a full demonstration of his abilities to bring things together. Seamlessly blending some of his favourite styles, this record contains all the feels to be wished for, and an experience that leaves plenty of room for return visits, this EP has you covered. -

The first Archivators 12" featured some choice remixes from Joey Negro amongst others deep cover gems from the deep house fraternity. The theme continues on this second 12", which leads in style with a shimmering remix of Vincent Inc by Julian Sanza. Next up comes the eternal, infectious anthem "Music Is My Life" by Colonel Abrams - the seriously deadly club dub no less. Nu jazz veteran Nigel Hayes kicks off the B side with the uplifting broken beat flavour of "Jabawaki", before DJ EFX closes the record out with smoky chords n keys aplenty on "Gravity". -
