Pop 1977 ITA Also appears as "Spark Records" on the Replay Series. Spark Records was a British record label started 1967 by Bob Kingston of publisher Southern Music in London. Spark relied heavily on the musicians, writers and studio technicians already employed by Southern: John Carter, Ken Lewis, Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera, Eric Woolfson (Alan Parsons Project) and others. The brand "Spark" was copyrighted outside the UK in 1971 ("© 1971" appears under the Spark logo). The record company Spark Records (5) was founded by Peer-Southern Organization/Peer-Southern Productions, Inc. for distribution in US and Sweden. EMI and Spark Italiana Srl. were in charge of the distribution in Italy. Many of Spark's 1960s releases are now fetching high prices as original sales were usually very low due to poor promotion and an underserved distribution deal with Pye Records. Spark did become more successful in the mid-1970s with UK Top Ten hits from The Peppers, The Band Of The Black Watch and Wigan's Ovation. Bob Kingston left Spark after 11 years in 1977. -

The Sound Migration label takes another trip back in to the CATT articles to explore the proto-trance and early bleep techno sound they were pushing from 1988-1991. Another five essential gems from the modestly sized catalogue get an airing here, kicking off with Confidential's haunting 'Amphibious Carbine' followed by the boxy pressure of Exocet's 'Nitrogen'. This is astounding stuff throughout, not least the freak-zone trip of Holy Ghost's 'Walking On Air', which sounds like the common denominator between Ibiza and Goa in their nascent days as party destinations. Don't sleep on the clattering funk of Exocet's 'Overdose' either, a seriously snappy groover with all kinds of oddball sampling going on. -

An Announcement Of A Miracle This tune is about a specific idea.. not using a 303 to make a timeless piece of Chicago Seriousness. The Jak & Nico Babylon lays out the foundation of vintage electronics righteously snapping Kode with an intense amount of energy and balance paying respect to the underground tribes. The sermon included throughout the song is about the truthful miracle in the lives of OUR humanity everyday. listen, absorb and realize! Roman Romance 4 The Drum Kidz This is a honorable homage to Fred Brown from Rocking House Records (Chicago).. The Jak & Nico go head to head with this dark and melancholic slab of pure chicago created by hand… Showin Ultra Respect. -

Music, like love, surprises you, makes your heart race, gives you new eyes with which to look at yourself in the mirror..." (Gigi Masin)With an exclusive presentation by GIGI MASIN, UP TO 23 release their second album, now with an expanded three-member lineup following the permanent addition of ENRICO CONIGLIO over the founder members MARCO BUFFETTI and FRANCESCO FINCATO. The album draws inspiration from the 1980s, evoking atmospheres reminiscent of sci-fi soundtracks. Partly romantic, partly doom ambient, the work unfolds as a requiem for our planet. Liquid and enveloping atmospheres drift between melodic ambient territories — explored through processed guitars and synthesizers — and soberly electronic paths traveled to the rhythm of sequencer-driven patterns and programmed structures.Dramatic and evocative moments emerge throughout this succession of varied yet perfectly integrated and fluid soundscapes, where sounds and progressions combine with ever-shifting solutions, following a descriptive thread that remains consistent as it continuously unravels through encompassing and emotionally engaging textures. AN APPLE A DAY YOU DIE ANYWAY is the perfect soundtrack to these dark times that UP TO 23 want to color in order to continue to hope, to live without having to survive. -

Cat: MM 44
Andres has always been out there doing his thing, but it feels like an age since he dropped "Andres III" on us. Finally, the Detroit hero is back with a splash on his regular home of Mahogani Music with a stunning follow-up that brings out the best of his many musical threads. There's Cubano style vibes on "Back In The Old Times" and hand-clapping gospel tinted house grooves on "Mighty Tribe", sweet and sexy downtempo jams like "I'll Wait 4 U" and mad heavy R&B beatdowns like "What's Ur Name Again" - that's just the first four tracks and when they hit like this, you know the rest of the record's just as strong and just as varied.
