Jacques Edouard Barbot Caribbean-born and naturalised Italian artist, in his youth Barbot initially moved to Paris, France with his family. In 1967, he was the lead vocalist of band I Cabala, although he mainly sang, danced, and DJ'd in various restaurants and clubs for the next few years, in order to survive. His eventual last DJ-ing job came in 1977 at the "Charlie Club" in Rome, Italy (a club owned by Beryl Cunningham's husband), and he moved to Italy as new, more high profile, opportunities arose. After being found by writers of Italy's RAI Radiotelevisione Italiana network, along with Stefania Rotolo, he gained popularity with the TV show "Piccolo Slam", featuring "Toccami" (1977), a track written with Puccio Roelens. He later gained an Italian chart #1, again with another TV related track, "Aria Di Casa" (1981), the theme to programme "Happy Circus", written with his wife Vivì Barbot. He continued with his musical and TV related work until around the end of the 1980s. He is husband to Vivì Barbot, they are parents to their son, club DJ Sasha Barbot. -

The grooves are heavy and dubby but still resolutely house-oriented as William Caycedo steps up to Dungeon Meat with his first EP in a couple of years. "Rock It" perfects the lean and mean groove - just a nasty drum jack and a big subby bassline, and utterly infectious with it. "Lock N' Load" follows a similar trajectory, although functions more as a tool than a standalone track. "Cut I" is a little more bubbly in its demeanour while still following the formula of drums, bass and little else. "Cut II" has a sweet bassline that will hook the dancers in, while "Cut III" keeps the pressure up with its nagging hats and subtle rhythmic fills. This is one for the DJs, but don't be fooled - there's bags of attitude tucked within these stripped back jams. -

Distangled is dusting off another hidden gem with the reissue of Barfly, a rare and sought-after mid-90s release by Wringler. Originally pressed in the Netherlands, this obscurity has been a favourite among collectors for years, often trading hands for serious money. It's easy to see whyithis six-track offering navigates the boundaries of house and techno with a raw, unpolished feel that gives the music an undeniable edge. There's even a playful nod to disco in the mix, adding some unexpected grooves to the otherwise gritty soundscape. What makes this reissue especially intriguing are the three previously unreleased tracks. Found buried on the original session tapes, these tracks broaden the scope of the album and offer a glimpse into Wringler's studio sessions, revealing layers of depth and creativity beyond what was initially released. Like the best reissues, this one does more than just preserve the past; it reintroduces an album that feels strangely out of time. The sounds, raw as they are, resonate with a contemporary audience, proving once again that Wringler's production has an enduring quality. Barfly is a reminder that the underground can always come back to the surface, offering fresh perspectives on sounds we thought we knew. Big tip for those in the know! -
